Fishing season In the Atlantic provinces, fishing regulations are managed provincially. Always check your provincial government’s fisheries guide to ensure your catch is in season and that you are aware of catch limits — how many fish you’re allowed to take home and what size they need to be. With this in mind, knowing which species you’re fishing for will determine what bait and lure to select. There are also regulations regarding what kind of live bait is allowed. This is to prevent introducing invasive species or contaminants into waterways. The East Coast has an abundance of species. While trout and perch are common in some regions, many anglers head out for the challenge of Atlantic salmon.
