Lou Pécou Pizzeria
Halifax, N.S.
What comes to mind when you think of a classic East Coast dish? Fish chowder? Yes. Donair? Absolutely. But what about pizza?
In 2025, Halifax’s Lou Pécou Pizzeria was named one of the world’s top 100 in The Best Pizza Awards, an international culinary ranking from the prestigious Best Chef Awards organization. Pizzaiolo Cédric Toullec, who hails from Marseille, France, makes pies that feature classic Italian toppings and his own unique flavour combinations. The One Night in Marseille pizza combines tomato sauce, bocconcini, pepperoni, basil, Parmigiano Reggiano, caramelized fennel and pickled mustard seed.
But don’t worry, global recognition has not gone to Toullec’s head. His pizzeria retains its casual East Coast charm — and yes, they serve garlic fingers.

A Family Day Trip Along the Acadian Shore:
Moncton to Bouctouche
The mission of New Brunswick’s Irving Eco-Centre is to protect and enhance La Dune de Bouctouche, one of the few remaining sand dunes on the northeast coast of North America. It stretches 12 km across Bouctouche Bay, and visitors can enjoy 800 metres of boardwalk with ramps and stairs to the beach. In winter, the constant wind and roar of the waves on the coastline, combined with the lack of crowds — you may have the boardwalk to yourself — offer a true sense of solitude and peace. From Moncton, it’s about a 45-minute drive straight through, but there are plenty of fun things to do and see along the way. Here are some suggestions to help make a winter’s day trip out of your dune adventure.
